AI SEEN ON TV: A Journey into Generative Commercials
Project Overview
Welcome to a shopping channel from an alternate reality. This showreel is a departure from traditional 3D and VFX, diving headfirst into the wonderfully strange world of pure AI-generated video. The project is a parody of classic "As Seen on TV" infomercials, conceived and created entirely by directing text-to-video AI models. Each clip, featuring a bizarre or impossible product—from a mammoth-fur sofa to clam chowder hot tubs—was generated from a simple text prompt, exploring the surreal, uncanny, and hilarious results of collaborating with a machine's imagination.
The Concept: Advertising Through the AI Looking-Glass
The core idea was to explore a simple question: What would commercials look like if they were dreamed up by an artificial intelligence? The result is this collection of shorts that exist in the "uncanny valley" of advertising. Enthusiastic presenters sell nonsensical products with unwavering conviction. The slightly strange physics, the subtly shifting faces, and the dream-like logic are not flaws, but rather the authentic aesthetic of this new medium. This reel is a celebration of the absurd and a humorous commentary on consumer culture, as seen through the lens of AI.
The AI-First Creative Process: From Text to Television
This project was an exercise in a completely new form of filmmaking, where the prompt is the script, camera, and set designer all in one.
1. The Power of the Prompt: Scripting Reality Every single scene in this showreel began as a line of text. I acted as a director, writing descriptive prompts to feed into generative AI video platforms (like Runway, Pika Labs, etc.). The goal was to be as imaginative and specific as possible.
2. Directing the AI: Iteration and Curation Generating the final clips was an iterative process. It involved refining prompts to control the composition, the actors' performances, the set design, and the overall tone. Maintaining character consistency across different shots and coaxing the right comedic timing out of the AI was a key part of the creative challenge. The final reel is a curated collection of the most successful and entertaining generations.
3. The Human Touch: Editing and Sound While the visuals are 100% AI-generated, the final narrative and comedic pacing are the result of human editing. I sequenced the best clips in Adobe Premiere Pro, cutting them together to build a cohesive showreel. The voiceovers, music, and sound effects (some of which were also AI-assisted) were then added to complete the classic, cheesy infomercial feel.
Tool Stack
- Primary Video Generation: Text-to-Video AI Models (e.g., Runway, Pika Labs)
- Ideation & Scripting: LLMs like ChatGPT
- Voiceover & Sound: AI Voice Synthesis (e.g., ElevenLabs) & traditional sound design libraries
- Editing & Finishing: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects
Conclusion
This showreel is a glimpse into a new frontier of content creation, where storytelling is a direct conversation with a creative AI. It's an exploration of how we can use these powerful new tools not just to replicate reality, but to invent new, surreal, and entertaining ones. It's not just motion graphics; it's prompt-craft, it's AI direction, and it's the future of imaginative filmmaking.
Stop the Scroll with 2000s-Style Video Ads | Nostalgia Marketing & Creative Storytelling
Does it ever feel like you're creating great stuff, but it just gets lost in the endless scroll?
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. It got me remembering those wild, high-energy TV ads from the 2000s. You know the ones—a little bit cheesy, ridiculously confident, and you just couldn't look away.
They weren't afraid to be different. They were fun. And they worked.
I believe that's the spark a lot of brands are missing today. That bit of personality that makes people stop, smile, and actually remember you.
So, I decided to bring that energy back, but give it a modern, premium finish. This video reel is the result. It’s my take on what happens when you mix that unforgettable Y2K vibe with today's filmmaking quality.
If you're tired of blending in and want to create a video that truly connects with people, I’m your guy. From the initial crazy idea to the final polished product, I’ll pour all my energy into making something that stands out.
